As you may know, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is making its annual visit to Hampton Roads soon. They usually come on the coldest week in February, but lucky for us their stop in Norfolk was delayed to a warmer month! The circus is awaiting a ruling by a federal court judge on a lawsuit it is facing for allegedly violating the Endangered Species Act (ESA). According to the plaintiffs in the case, Ringling violated the ESA by chaining endangered Asian elephants for prolonged periods—up to 100 hours at a stretch—and beating them with sharp metal-tipped bullhooks until they bled.
We will need everyone to come out and make our annual opening night circus demonstration the biggest one yet!
What: Opening night mass demonstration
When: Thursday, April 16, 6 p.m.
Where: Scope Arena, 215 E. Brambleton Ave.
, Norfolk, VA
Please urge your family, friends, and neighbors to come out to this important demonstration. We need to let Ringling know that whips, chains, and bullhook abuse is not welcome in our city.
If you're interested in seeing exactly what we're talking about, please check out the undercover investigation videos below, and PLEASE don't take your kids to an animal circus.
